Neighborhoods in Reno, NV
Reno, Nevada is a beautiful city which is becoming a very popular place to live. Although it is sometimes over-looked in favor of flashier Las Vegas, Reno is also a very fun town with amazing outdoor festivals, excellent restaurants and great parks. The “biggest little city in the world”, Reno has a lot to offer. Today, we’re going to discuss Reno’s different neighborhoods:
Downtown – The center of the city, the Downtown area one of Reno’s most popular destinations for food, nightlife and museums. A constantly-developing area, Reno’s Downtown has had a large assortment of condos built over the last several years and is becoming an increasingly desirable place to live.
Old Southwest – A beautiful area, Old Southwest boasts an excellent proximity to the Downtown area as well as attractive housing stock. A tranquil atmosphere close to the hustle and bustle, it’s no wonder this neighborhood is in high demand.
Donner Springs – Another great neighborhood right near Downtown, this residential area is known for being quiet and family-friendly. Though a peaceful community, residents enjoy a good proximity to the town center.
Hidden Valley – Much like its neighbor, Donner Springs, Hidden Valley is also a quiet and residential neighborhood. A bit more off the beat-and-track, Hidden Valley has private roads (no main street) and even boasts two golf courses.
South Meadows/Double Diamond – This newly-developed neighborhood is a favorite of families who are searching for a bit of extra space. Unlike Hidden Valley, this neighborhood has a few main streets and also has a bike lane in each one, making it a very bicycle-friendly section of town.
Damonte Ranch – Another newer addition to the community, Damonte Ranch is primarily a residential community with very few office buildings. Blessed with rolling hills, a breathtaking view of the mountains and three golf courses, Damonte Ranch is a great place to be.
Midtown – Located directly South of Downtown Reno, Midtown is gaining a reputation as an excellent alternative to its busier neighbor. With a nice mix of residential and commercial buildings, Midtown truly has the best of both worlds. In fact, Midtown Reno has more mom-and-pop-owned businesses than any other section of the city.
Spanish Springs – Located on the northern tip of the city, Spanish Springs is an ideal bedroom community, with a variety of single-family homes and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Being a bit farther from the town center, there is less hustle and bustle, but if you want to take a trip downtown, it’s a quick twenty-minute drive away.
North Valleys – The North Valleys are comprised of several smaller communities including Cold Springs, Golden Valley, Hungry Valley, Lemmon Valley, Panther Valley, Red Rocks and Stead, to name a few. Some landmarks include the Sierra Sage Golf Course, the Reno Stead Airport, the Sierra Safari Zoo and more.
Old Northwest – Located on the northern end of the city, Old Northwest is a fun and exciting community. In addition to many casinos, it has a strong live music scene, boasting over ten entertainment venues. Old Northwest is also home to the University of Nevada-Reno, which gives the neighborhood a college-town feel.
If suburban living is more appealing to you, communities like Sparks, Pleasant Valley/Steamboat and Verdi (among others) may be good options.
